Obituary for Sandor Toth

Sandor Toth

Mr. Sandor Toth passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at St. Peter’s University Medical Center in New Brunswick at the age of 77.

Sandor was born and raised in Debrecen, Hungary until he left the country and moved to Austria at the age of 19 to escape communism and create a better life for himself. He then immigrated to the United States and lived in the heart of New Brunswick before moving to Franklin Township to raise his two daughters. If there was ever anyone who emulated the phrase “pull yourself up by your bootstraps", it was Sandor. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Edison for over 41 years as a machinist and loved his job to his core. He was extremely proud of the life he built for himself and his family in the United States and felt privileged to go to work at a job every day that he loved. He was a talented mechanic who could fix anything as well as a builder and built 2 beautiful homes.

Sandor stayed true to his heritage and was a longtime, active member of the Hungarian American Athletic Club in New Brunswick. He and his wife Katalin were there almost every weekend, cooking homemade meals for their various events and playing cards with other members.

He loved learning about history and traveled the world with Katalin to destinations such as Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Italy, Canary Islands, South America, and Turkey – just to name a few. They also made sure they went to Hungary each year to visit friends and relatives.

In his daily life Sandor enjoyed the little things – spending time with Katalin, discussing politics at the diner with friends, riding his Harley Davidson on beautiful days, and swimming with his friends at the Princeton Fitness & Wellness gym. But most importantly, he absolutely loved being with his family.

“Family is everything” were words that he lived by. Sandor made daily phone calls to family members to say hello and remind them of how proud he was of them.

Sandor will always be remembered for his endearing smile, amazing bear hugs, his Ford coveralls, his oxford shirts (always missing a few top buttons), and an infectious charm. Sandor left an unforgettable mark on this world and will continue to live in the hearts of his loved ones.

He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Toth, father Jozsef, and mother, Juliana.

Mr. Toth is survived by his wife of 33 years, Katalin Toth. He is also survived by his daughters Elisabeth Ziarkoski and her husband William; and Katherina Scott and her husband Edward, his seven grandchildren Alexis Ilana Shepherd and her husband Christopher, William Ziarkoski and his wife Kaley, Francis Michael Ziarkoski and his wife Angelina, Caitlin Anne Scott and her husband Andrew, Meagan Elisabeth Scott, Erin Katherine Scott and Alexander Liam Scott and his four great grandchildren Christopher, Jackson, Harley and Parker.

Visiting hours will take place from 9:30-10:30am Saturday, November 19, at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. The funeral service will begin at 10:30am, and the graveside services will follow at Franklin Memorial Park.
