Matthew Slavin passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021 at U Penn Medical Center in Plainsboro. He was 54 years old.

Matt was born on November 11th, 1966 in New York City, and lived there for a brief time as a child. He was raised in Hightstown, NJ. After graduating from Hightstown High School, he furthered his education at Rutgers University. He finished with an undergraduate degree in ceramic engineering and later earned an MBA.

Matt had a lengthy career in the world of business, always seeking new challenges. He was most recently a consultant at Otsuka. Prior to that, he worked at Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, and others.

He was a sports enthusiast, and loved nothing more than to watch his Jets lose every Sunday. He also loved attending his sons’ games, beginning with t-ball and lasting all through the many years of baseball, basketball, and soccer games.

Matt enjoyed traveling, trying fine food and drinks, and enjoying life with his family and friends. He loved playing with new technology, and spent his free time tracking the stock market. An avid cook, he honed his skills on the grill, and his pizza, briskets, and lasagna were family favorites. His most famous dish, his latkes, will live on through his son Ben. His free style with recipes is passed on to his son Josh.

Matt’s father, James Slavin, passed away, but he is survived by his mother Sara Slavin, his wife of 26 years, Deborah Slavin, their sons Joshua and Benjamin, and his sister Paula Slavin along with her partner Jane Shultz.

A memorial gathering will take place on Thursday April 15 from 4-7 PM at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. The family invites you to join in this informal sharing of love and memories to find comfort in dealing with this loss.

If you cannot attend this gathering, please feel free to reach out to the family privately if you would like to celebrate Matt’s life together at a later date. There will also be a zoom link available to view the gathering, or you can leave a message for the family on the Memory Wall page.

If you have any memories, pictures, or thoughts that capture Matt and your time with him, the family would like to create a memory book of “Life, with Matt”. We invite you to share these with us through email @ or share a message on the Gleason website Memory Wall. Please send us any memory or thoughts with Matt that make you smile.

In honor of Matt, we would like to recognize the excellence of the amazing staff who guided us through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers or gifts, we encourage you to donate directly to the Critical Care Unit and Intensive Care Unit of Penn Medical or your local hospital. Details for this will be provided at the gathering on Thursday.

Keeping in line with Covid-19 safety, we ask that you please refrain from physical contact with the family, and ensure social distancing and mask wearing while on the premises.

All other services will take place privately.

While I only met Matt a short time ago when he began at Otsuka we immediately hit it off like we were friends forever. Matt's charisma and his shear energy were a true pleasure to experience. He will surely be missed by all and I sincerely hope Matt's family finds some comfort realizing the positive impact Matt brought and shared with us here at Otsuka in addition to all those that came in contact with him. With sincerest condolences, Mike Tepedino, Associate Director, Infrastructure & Hosting Otsuka America Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

During the short time of association that Matt and I had, his enthusiasm and passion towards work was eye catchy. Matt would be missed and my prayers with the departed soul and courage to near and dear ones to bear the irrecoverable loss
