Gerd Bolstad

Mrs. Gerd Bolstad passed away on Thursday evening January 14, 2021.

She was 77 years old. Mrs. Bolstad was born and raised in Norway. She resided in Sweden, Canada Brooklyn, NY and Towaco, NJ. She moved to the Somerset Run Community in Somerset in 2005. She was also a part time resident of Norway where she and her husband Frank would spend their summers.

Mrs. Bolstad was employed by the Norwegian Air Force as a Communications Operator where she met her husband. She worked for many years in the Accounting Department for the Norway Times in Brooklyn and as a salesperson at the Happy Viking Scandinavian Furniture store in Fairfield, NJ before retiring in 2006.

Mrs. Bolstad enjoyed going to the beach and boating and her weekly mahjong games with her friends of Somerset Run. She was also a very good seamstress and was proud to share the skill with her granddaughters. She was always happy to have company in her home and was certain to make anyone feel welcome. Mrs. Bolstad was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and kept a strong connection with her friends and relatives who lived there.

She was predeceased by her brothers Ernst Hoveland and Johnny Hoveland. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-six years, Frank Bolstad of Somerset and their sons and daughters in law, Tom Bolstad and wife Laurie of Bridgewater and Glenn Bolstad and wife Stephanie of Old Bridge. She is also survived by grandchildren Alec, Sonja, Dean and Nora, a brother Kaare Hoveland and sister Reidun Djoseland.

Visiting will take place from 3-6 PM on Sunday at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset with a blessing beginning at 5:30 PM. All other services will take place privately.

Gerd was such an inspiration to us all. She brightened so many family gatherings, holidays, vacations etc. with her special touch, beauty and joy. These memories are treasures.
