Antoinette Maimone Marchetta, 96 passed away peacefully in her home in the loving embrace of her children on Saturday, May 1, 2021. She lived a long and loving life, she was active and productive until the last two weeks of her life.

Born in San Pier Niceto, Sicily, Italy in 1924 to Rosario and Giuseppina (Pulieo) Maimone, she immigrated with her family to the United States in 1930 and settled on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. After graduating from an all-girls public high school in New York City she and her family moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1942 where she lived until her death. In 1948 she married her husband Joseph Marchetta and created in her words, “a perfect family, 2 boys and 2 girls”. The family would grow to include 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

After her youngest daughter started school, Antoinette went to work as a Market Researcher, first for Colgate-Pamolive for 5 years and then for Johnson and Johnson. She retired in 1986, after 20 years with the Personnel Products Division of J& J. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Virgin Church. She was President of the New Brunswick High School PTA and a member of the New Jersey Federation of Women’s Club.

Throughout her fruitful life she was an accomplished seamstress, culminating in designing and sewing her daughter’s exquisite wedding gown. She was a prolific baker, making over 30 varieties and thousands of cookies for Christmas each year. A lover of nature she grew a vegetable garden every year and filled her yard with fruit trees. She attended butterfly releases each year and even swam with the dolphins in the Caribbean when she was in her 80’s.

She never slowed down, she travel extensively throughout Europe and North America. She was a lover of opera attending the Metropolitan Opera on a regular basis. Most of her energy went to support, celebrate and encourage her family in their endeavors and successes. She never missed a wedding, baptism, graduation, birthday party or dance recital. Her annual special visits with Santa Claus always included all her great grandchildren. She attended Princeton University track meets to watch her granddaughter run long distance races, golf outings in honor of her son, and even Philadelphia Flyer hockey games with her daughter, attending her last game at the age of 95 right before the pandemic started.

In the last month of her life, as the pandemic eased, she was able to hug and deliver Easter Lamb Cakes to each of her 6 great-grandchildren. She was a beautiful woman who had a beautiful life.

She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years Joseph in 2012, her extraordinary daughter Frances Marchetta Brennan in 2014 and her brother Rocco Maimone in 2018.

She is survived by her sons, Anthony J. Marchetta and his wife Carole of Califon, NJ, Russell Marchetta and his wife Deborah of Venice, Florida, her son-in-law Douglas Brennan of Hollywood Florida and her daughter and caregiver Josephine Marchetta of New Brunswick. What a wonderful woman- mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend. So glad that she was with us for so many years, but still not enough. She will be in my prayers along with so many others she knew. It has been many years since I have seen her, but I remember her fondly. Cherish the wonderful memories.
